Condition of the Month Laminitis

Condition of the Month Laminitis

It will be of no surprise to many that come the summer months we see a rise in the number of cases of laminitis. This year has been no different, in fact we are seeing record numbers of cases.

There are many factors that have influenced this- last year’s winter was especially mild and this led to many horses entering the spring in better condition than usual. This was then followed by a lot of sun and rain, resulting in lush grass and hence why so many horses are overweight and as a result coming down with laminitis.

Here are some x rays of a laminitis case we have seen recently demonstrating the devastating effects it can have on the foot itself.

Check out our advice section on managing laminitis for further information and what you can do if you suspect your horse of having laminitis.
